ideally 24 hours but i plugged mine in after eight and its fine. just have to let the gasses settle

The guy at my electronics shop (a pro) said 8 hours minimum, but I have no idea whether this was from experience, or if he'd ever explored other options.
Overnight is most convenient, I guess, if you have no pressing need to restock it sooner. Just get someone to help you move it in the evening, then fill it up again before noon the next day.

If you have laid it over on its side, it drains all of the fluid out of the compressor, depending on how long it was that way, you need to let it stand for between 8-12 hours before pluging it in.

I let mine stand for 24 hours, 'cos I was lazy. But I think they recommend 12

ideally they say 24, to be fair 4 hours is enough, i used to deliver fridges and 24 is worst case scenario

I remember my father telling me that you should let it stand at least 2 hours or more, so the gas inside will settle.
