indie films are just low budget films often made by not famous yet directors without a lot of financial help

Independent films are ones produced by individuals not affiliated with large corporate movie makers. What is interesting, Hollywood was the center for independent movie makers. Alexander Graham Bell controlled the creating of films on the east coast and would send hit men to theaters that tried to show films made by anyone not using his patented method. Though his was the main one, it was not the only one. Europeans had a system that worked just as well, but was far cheaper.

I suppose if you watch a porno film on your own you could class it as an independent film. Those films designed for booths are usually designed to be watched independently too.

No, and independent film means someone of small means and money made a movie whereas porn is well, pornography and specific as to what you are going to find in it. Independents are completely different and can include porn, but are not limited to porn. Open Water, if you saw or heard of it, was an independent film, if that gives you any idea. Good question!!

But independent films are more likely to get R ratings for sex and violence because they don't tend to edit the final product to get a bigger audience.
