Taxi's are super cheep, IF you pay attention. Make sure there is a meter. If there is no meter then make sure you agree on a price first AND make sure you agree that the price is in Derhums not US dollar, thats their favorite scam. Next make sure that they understand where you want to go and that they actually know where it is. Many of these cab drives just got to Dubai yesterday from Pakistan and have no clue where anything but the Airport and City Centre Mall is. Some times they will say Yes ma'am, yes ma'am and they have know idea what they just agreed to. The best is if you can get someone from you hotel to make sure they know. Most cabbies don't speak much English, or Arabic for that matter. I have actually made them pull over and let me out a few times because they didn't know where they were going. My favorate is when they pick you up from the hotel and then tell you that they know where to go, AND THEN after driving for 10 minutes they ask you which way to go now. Cause chances are you have been there long then they have. I have gotten so made at cab drivers there sometimes I was ready to kill them. Fortunitely it is cheap. From one end of town to the other shouldn't cost more then $15 US. Most of the time you are looking at $5 to $10 except to and from the airport then it is more like $20 to $25. My best advice is bring a map.

Dubai is an expensive city, it is the most expensive city in the Middle East. But how expensive is very relative, if you live in Europe, you will find prices in Dubai average. Taxi's are expensive, expect to pay 10DHS for a short distance 3-5kms.

In general public busses are a cheaper option, try to get a city map and ask around. English is widely spoken, so no worries about communicating with people there.

Well most of the pepople says that Taxis are really expensive,, if you are a visitor here then I suggest you to first get an International driving license before coming here and then on the arrival hall at the Dubai International Airport you got many Rent A Car companies, you can hire a car from them for a about 150 Dhs/day (48 US$) and it is fully insured.
so good luck and not to waste your time finding a taxi,, get your own Rent A Car!

Good luck..
