should be individual accounts? We pay every paycheck for someone else, and by the time we get to that point, all that money we paid will be all gone. Why not Each person's money be THEIR money when they get to that point, so all the lazy people living off of welfare have to get a job, or no cookies with your falsies! What do you think?

I agree 100%. Unfortunately the bleeding hearts have taken it upon themselves to use our money to look after the leeches as well.

Social Security was set up to protect us financially when we get old, so old people who cannot work any more don't starve to death. If Bush wants to change it, you'd better believe it is for the gain of someone rich to the detriment of working people. If you question this, you have not been paying any attention to his track record and you'd better start opening your eyes. Social Security should not be touched by this Administration's dirty fingers in any way or you, my friend, will find out too late why it is a bad idea to let them change it. The only way you get Social Security is if you pay into it and you pay into it when you are employed, so people who don't work don't get Social Security.

If you want an individual account, get a 401K or an IRA. After a few years, you will see why you don't want the Wall st. boys managing your SS account.

Dillon, why can't we start a retirement fund with our money going towards social security?

The only (or at least one of the biggest) problem with that is, what do you do for mothers and housewives (or fathers and househusbands) who spend their whole lives taking care of their families? SSI doesn't recognize that as "work" (although they should!) and doesn't provide for them.
