since i have studied sanskrit for 8 years i have very come across this word and to my knowledge it is an arabic word which means land of god.

i hav studied Sanskrit and i dont think the exact word Arab is from it. although it might hav its roots in Sanskrit as it is one of the most ancient languages.

No.There is no Sanskrit word that comes closer to ARAB.Some one must have suggested ARAV (which means without melody --lack of ravam)is the word.But ARAV is the other name for Tamil used by those who think that Tamil is a Dravidian language.In Tamil itself Tamil means sweet.
