I often hear the statement 'England is all middle class nowadays'. Regardless of whether you're from England or not, do you still make Marxist class distinctions? Do you consider yourself to be part of a particular social class? If so, what does it mean to you in terms of identity?

it depends, class is usually dependant on your income, where you live ect. i would be considered low class by others, but i dont look at people that way. i see people as assholes or not assholes, doesnt matter how much money you make or if you live in a high class neighborhood. i dont consider myself to be in any class at all, which actually gives me my own identity. i played in a band for years and i noticed that the only difference in people between the high class clubs and the dives was the amount of money they had. otherwise they were the same.

I was raised upper middle class, and my whole extended family is basically in that class (give or take a little). I'm currently upper-lower class, as in lower class, but not super lower, but I don't consider myself that class really, because I was raised upper middle and I'm only 22; even people who come from upper middle class are poor at my age. Class is imporant to me, and helps define who I am, not for class' sake, but because it indicates education/intelligence/success and social things from what you watch on television to how you see the world. I want to be upper-middle again one day because I would like success, and because I'm into the arts, I doubt I will ever have enough success to be "rich." That's cool with me. Even if I was just plain ole middle, that'd be good as long as I'm a success, career-wise, life-wise.
