I would put just about any of William Shakespeare's plays first including Hamlet, Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo & Juliet, etc.

If you're looking for the greatest American play/playright, it would probably be Eugene O'Neill with The Iceman Cometh or Long Day's Journey Into Night.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts..."
William Shakespeare, "As You Like It"

HOSS (staring at image): What's that?

MEERA: The El Caminos.

HOSS: I didn't bring you down here to look at pix of Roadkill! I'm ready for a Matar, man. A major Matar! I wanna move!

MEERA: You'll blow it.
HOSS: I'll blow it? What do you know. I've always moved on a sixth sense. I don't need your crossed up, half-a s sed chart mix! We might as well be staring at box tops from Quaker Oatmeal. Might be more current than this s h i t.
BECKY: You gotta play privey to the Charts, Hoss. You never went against the Charts before.

Ok, I'm steering clear of Shakespeare, so I would have to say that, my favourite play is definately "An Ideal Husband" by Oscar Wilde.
Simply brilliant.

That's a stereotype, but generally... Shakespeare was/is!! the best actually... "Hamlet" is constructed with so much caution, understanding of a human being's personalities.... Great.
My favourite though - Mickiewicz:)
