I don't know that I would put transmission fluid in the gas tank and run it. It might make your engine smoke. For that I would use injector cleaner every time you change the oil.
What you can do is, when you are changing your oil, add 1 pint of trans fluid to the oil and run the car just long enough to warm it up a little (no more than 5 minutes!). Then change your oil immediately. This will help clean the engine.

Yes, transmission fluid has detergents in it. NO, no, no....you should NEVER EVER put it in your gas tank. If your car is newer, with injectors, or a throttle body, use "techron" injector cleaner; the black bottle. There is another product out there called Berryman's. This one is by far, the absolute BEST ONE. There is another product out called SEAFOAM. At high idle with a warm engine, slowly pour about 1/3 of the can in the throttle body until you flood it out. Let set for about twenty minutes BEFORE you start it. When it does start, it will smoke like crazy for a short time, until all the deposits are gone from the combustion chamber. This will clean out your intake as well. That being said, if your car is running rough and you notice that your injectors are "spurting" instead of spraying, it's already too late. Go buy some new ones, or wherever you purchase them, sometimes they have re-manufactured units that are cheaper. Just make sure you take your old ones back for the core charge. If you have "sludge" in your engine oil, you can also use the SEAFOAM in there. It has excellent cleansing properties, and will not harm your engine IF used as directed. Good Luck

You are flirting with disaster. Someone told you wrong, it cleans the valves and removes carbon on older carb type engines. If you put it in the tank, you will clog fuel filters, injectors etc.
Go to Wal-Mart or auto zone and get some fuel injector cleaner, or fuel system cleaner and add it to a full fuel tank and you will run like new.

Don't put things in there that aren't designed specifically for that. I'd recommend filling up with a couple of tanks of Shell's V-power petrol. It has chemicals that are designed to go in there and clean the fuel system. Also there are loads of additives to use that don't make your car do nasty things like encase itself in a cloud.

I would not recommend this. Because trans fluid is oil base if you have a injector you can mess it up if you do that you might as well be putting 10 50W oil in the fuel system.

No don't put it directly in the gas tank. If your vehicle is carburated then pour it directly in the carburator. Not too much though. Have someone else in the vehicle so as to keep the rpm's up and keep it from dying. Also be prepared for your neighbors to complain about the smoke screen you've just created.

listen to the majority on this one...tranny fluid belongs in the tranny (or p/s in some cars). use fuel injector cleaner once in a while, but mostly put a quality gas like Mobil, Shell, or bp in the tank and you'll be fine.

you dumbass. trans fluid and gass do not mix, and this will not clean your intake/ fuel sys. go to gm and get a rail fuel sys can- it is super concentrate and works much better
PS TO J- NO DESPITE THE FANCY ADS ON TV, RUNNING A HIGHER OCTANE GASPOLINE IN AN ENGINE THAT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR IT IS NOT BETTER. PREMIUM GAS HAS MORE OCTANE IN IT, AND A LITTLE MORE ADDITIVES, I ADVISE YOU NOT TO RUN PREMIUM IN A 4CYL UNLESS IT IS HIGH COMPRESSION, CHECK YOUR OWNERS MAN. THIS IS WHAT T IS- THOSE FUELS ARE NOT "BETTER" LIKE THEY ARE TRYING TO TELL YOU OR "CLEANER, ETC" THEY JUST HAVE HIGHER OCTANE. THE BEST FUEL YOU CAN RUN IS MOBIL, IT HAS THE BEST MIX AND A GOOD LEVEL OF DETERGENTS. IF YOU THINK J IS RIGHT, RUN PREMIUM AND I'LL SEE YOU IN THE SHOP WHEN YOUR ENGINE STARTS TO DETONATE AND MELT YOUR PISTONS,ETC.

Put it directly in the carburator with the engine running. A better solution is to use the Chevron additive, Techron.

Yes, but it really does clean as much as most would think..... just makes a death cloud of smoke.... and hurts the catalytic converter.
