Today, August 6th, 61st anniversary of Hisroshima Atomic Bomb attack.
In present day world affairs, Japan is a major ally of America. Have Japanese people already come out of the past shadows, then why are they mourning a strike in remembrance of tht attack tomorrow?

Yes. Because they are Asians, and there are influence of local religions.
It is very different from the one in the west.
They teach people about afterworld, transmigration of soul etc, and they believe that dead person might be near us and watching us.

At memorial day, they try to remember, think and feel those dead families.
Not only this day. You know, they also cry at home when those dead person's obit come.

Most Japanese don't whine about Hiroshima and Nagasaki anymore. maybe some old generation remember that tough.
Don't worry.

Anyway, that is Asians. You may find similarity with Chinese and Korean, too.

Today, Japan and US are in good relationship. No doubt.

Im stationed in Japan and theyve always been very courteous. Im closer to Tokyo, i havent been as far south as Hiroshima but ive known guys that have traveled there and they said the people are also very polite. It isnt really the older generation of people that you would worry about. the only real animosity comes from the younger generation, people around their 20's to 30's. they dont believe we shoudl be stationed here or have anything to do with Japan.

We were originally invited to put this base here by the Japanese after WW II and weve enjoyed a bilateral arrangment with them. Ive heard something recently, maybe just rumor, that the Japanese believe we have fulfilled our obligation to them and would like sovereignty of their country back, from a military standpoint. all their assets are defense only and that was the agreement that we made with them after WWII, that they could only harbor defense weapons, nothing offensive. But I believe things could change in the future...

I think most Japanese people like the USA, but don't feel inferior culturally. I think most Japanese people grieve over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but also see their place in the war.
