Why is it that BUSH (his cronies and supporters) constantly talks about the "sanctity of marriage" when talking about a Marriage Amendment which would state that it should be exclusively between a man and a woman?

Sanctity of Marriage? That's laughable. Why don't Republican's target the real social crisis facing married couples like the 53% divorce rate (that's US Census Statistic).

Sanctity of Marriage? We live in a country where I can marry two people by answering thirty questions in an online test and become a MInister in three days!!

We have chapels that marry people via Elvis impersonation 24/7!!

It's like the abortion debate. If conservatives cared about the sanctity of others then why aren't they spending all that anti abortion money on setting up adoption clinics?

Why, why not? It's the classic bait and switch. They don't care about the sanctity of anything other than the sanctity of their own selfishness and precious religious views. Religious views!! LOL

And to FELIX:

I am married and I have three children and they often ask me questions like, "Why do rednecks with bad goatee's tell you to do your homework/"

Do my homework? Hmmm.. I think i did my homework, which might explain my dual Master's degrees.

well, i have yet to hear from one straight couple whose marriage is "safe" because gays cannot marry. if the republicans really wanted to address the sanctity of marriage, they should ban divorces, that wold really get all these people to shape up. in reality, the religious right has gotten marriage as a legal status confused with marriage as a religious institution. they think that because they believe homosexuality is wrong, that this gives them the right to prevent loving gay/lesbian couples from receiving the benefits that are open to straight couples, loving or not. it's really pretty sad that they are so cruel and ignorant

Government should not concern itself with the "sanctity of marraige". Government should only concern itself with how marraige fits into the civil order, since it is a civil institution. The government is always worried about costs, so the real reason they wont legalize any type of marraige, is they are afraid of the expense, like divorces, etc involved. Thats all.

the only reason politicians are making a big deal about it is because elections are coming up pretty soon. trust me after the elections, they won't care about marriage until '08!
