I used to suspect that Oprah was mainly a humanitarian because it boosts her ratings and brings in money. Then I was reading an article about one of the people who works for the show was vacationing in an area affected by the tsunami a while back and had gone missing. She was trying to hire a group of ex-marines to go into the area to search for him. It seemed a little selfish that she would only do that for one of her employees, but it still seemed to show she cared about someone. Then I continued reading and saw that she was going to try and film the group of men searching for this guy so she could put it on the show. I had never been so certain that Oprah was in it for the money. The thing is many celebrities donate money and time to charities for humanitarian and sometimes tax purposes. Oprah is one of the few who finds it necessary to make sure everyone knows how much time and money she is donating to charity. So she gets the benefit of huge tax breaks, plus the benefit of more money.

Yes, she does care about the people she interviews.
It may seem all about the money and that might be true in some situations.
But, she does pre-interviews with her guest and she knows what exactly they want to reveal and what they still want to conceal.
I remember once she was interviewing girls who have been to correctional institutions so many times before being 18 and a girl who had a huge criminal record was telling her story and then people laughed at her cause she said she wants to be a rap singer - she’s white & southern I guess – the girl started to cry then she said she doesn’t want to do that anymore Oprah excused her, she didn’t pressure her to keep talking or made fun of her.

If it were all about money , she would have never reached this far.
It's just she is extremely talented, and very human.
Surely, audiences and money have a strong impact in everything on tv, but if she does what she does it is because of who she is.
Give the show to someone else, and u would have seen that it would have fallen into oblivion, as well as thousands of people she has helped.
I'm sorry, i agree with the money argument, but i admire her as well. And no matter how distorted the world of TV shows is, she still makes a difference.

From what I've seen, Oprah cares about nothing but Oprah. She's pretty good at suckering the ignorant, though.

I really believe she does care. Just because someone has good ratings and lots of money doesn't make them a bad person. She wants to make a difference and uses her power to do that. In any case, does it matter? Good work is being done which wouldn't have been done without her, whatever her motivation.

Yes it depends on which one relates to her life. IF its a fellow obese or sexually abused person, you bet she cares because it brings back memories of her life. The other trivial stuff like rich people losing everything might not be as important to her.

I think she cares about some people's emotions of which she admires or can relate to but she does not care about every person's emotions she interviews.

She only cares to see them cry. If you notice that she only had people on her show that are currently going through hard times and she'll keep harping on that situation and asking them questions about it.
