Polar bears need the blubber from seals. They will also eat whales, fish, game, whatever they can catch. Seals will eat penguins but they mostly love fish and have to eat a lot of it to keep their blubber on. Just because they are both carnivores doesn't mean they aren't going to eat each other. Sharks eat other sharks all the time to the point they keep reefs in balance. The animal kingdom only knows it's hungry and wants to eat, each creature is different in preference but will eat anything if desperate enough, including each other. Hope this helps!!

i just saw a show about polar bears. they will go for days without eating. they walk along the ice looking for a hole in the ice where a seal be using to breathe air. he'll wait there until the seal comes up and grabs it. they also like to eat baby seals. they are both carnivores but that doesn't matter like roritr2005 said, they don't care. there are numerous instances in nature where carnivores eat carnivores.

There is no rule that states which animals carnivores can or cannot eat. Third level consumers are in fact predators of carnivores, and that's what trophic webs are made of.
While I understand that it's only logicall that herbivores do not eat herbivores, the carnivores eat just about anything that they can catch (of course they're more or less specialized in types of prey, but most are pretty flexible with respect to their dietary needs).

Coyotes and lynx are both carnivores, yet coyotes routinely prey on lynx. Cougar and racoons are both carnivores, yet cougars routinely prey on raccoons. Tigers and bears are both carnivores, yet tiger sorutinely prey on bears. Lions and leopards are both carnivores yet lions routinely prey on leopards. Wolves and weasels are both canrivores, yet wolves routinely prey on weasels.
The point being that carnivores prey on animals within a certain size range. They don't care what the animal eats, they only care what size it is.
