I was like you. Stay away from sleeping pills, they are addictive.
The best thing ( which worked with me ) is a simple work out. Walk for an hour.. or run for an hour.. then go home and take hot shower..
lay down on the bed.. and you will be gone in seconds..
Also before you sleep.. stay away from the computer or TV.. they stimulate your brain in a way that affect your sleeping..
You can always also read a little bit, while you are on the bed.. after the hot shower..
Best of luck

Clear your mind, and just concentrate on the sounds of your quiet room, and don't let your mind think of anything else, that's what I do, it's like meditating, I guess. I believe it shuts down your mind to a very basic level, that doen't require it to have to stay awake, so that falling asleep won't be fought.

drink warm milk, put ur feet on a pillow so that blood would rush to ur brain and most importantly try to get rid of all annoying ideas or thoughts. Also, never go to bed unless u r very sleepy otherwise u will never feel sleepy when u lay in bed, u can turn on the TV, turn off the lights and watch something veryyyyyy boring, and u will sleep i guess.
Good luck

1. Make sure your room is dark and quiet.
2. Breathe deeply and evenly for a count of 10.
3. Concentrate on relaxing the muscles in your toes. Imagine all the tension caught up in the muscles of your toes, traveling up your legs, through your torso and out the top of your head.
4. Now do the same with the arches and heels of your feet. Imagine all the tension caught up in the muscles of your arches and heels, traveling up your legs, through your torso and out the top of your head.
5. Continue to move up your body a little at a time, releasing the tension in your muscles. If you begin to feel tension returning to any certain parts before getting to your head, begin in that area again and continue to move up a little at a time.
IF you make it as far as your head, you should feel very relaxed and ready to sleep. Releasing muscle tension and emptying your conscious mind of worrisome thoughts is what you need to be able to sleep and this routine does both.

Read a book or, if your mind is turning, try this technique:
During the evening, write three pages of whatever is on your mind. Even if it's total rubbish, you must complete the three pages. Write as if no one will ever read what you wrote and keep your work somewhere secret. Try it every day for a week and see if you rest better. Sweet dreams.

#1 Take 2 Tylenol PM
#2 After the Tylenol...Repeat the Lords Prayer to yourself.. Usually 2 or 3 times and I am out...
I am not a religious fanatic and do not even go to church, but I do believe in god and This really works..
P.S. I would like to know if it works for anyone besides me.
What do you have to lose?
