Once ago, in 1985 I was what I believe could be considered a goth. I listened to the music [ bauhaus, this mortal coil, the cure, joy division the smiths, et al ] and definelty looked the look.
Things should be a little easier for you know, with the Internet, you're sure to find people with the same tastes and interests that you have.
.
check this site out:
http://www.chatmag.com/topics/society/goth.html
as well as this one:

And like someone said above, don't get overly concerned with labels...I myself fit into no label except maybe the geeky mom catagory, and I still like wearing black, reading horror novels, the same music, etc.
Good luck, and also I like your screen name: I posted a question about Faith just tonight, you should check it out!

I am a goth...
Or, so I consider myself to be. Well, I am who I am and do what I do, and more often than not it averages out to be gothish, if not gothic... Twelve years of it, I can only suppose it's not a fad or phase I'm going through that's going to fade fast.
I don't know if I can understand you, but I'm always willing to talk. You can eMail me if you want to.
Also, mmmmMeetUp!
I don't know what might be going on in your area, but it's worth a look.

i am not goth but i understand them, i can read people very well, i know where they are coming from, just b/c a person isn't one doesn't mean you don't get them. i love people that are themselves and not trying to be someone else. but i don't like when people try to be "goth" "prep" "hip hop" etc to fit in. be yourself and don't worry what others think!

lulu cakes is right
We're both individuals with our own idenities, we don't need to ascribe ourselves to a directionless subculture
goths look cool in movies, but in real life dipping yourself in black and walking around like your soooo misunderstood is weak, your just afraid to face people with your personality, so you ward everybody else off except your pale friends
