I live in California and I bought some wholesale items (shirts,jeans,jewelry etc..) and i want to sell some to my friends. I have all the merchandise in a spare room in my house. I want to invite them over to see if they would like to buy somethings from me, Do i still need a business license???

You do not necessarily need a license to do business but, you do need a resale permit or number/ ID. In order to get a resale number established you have to file a factious or DBA business name with state of CA business administration recorder office. You will also need a bank account under your DBA. If the goods that you are retailing are second hand then you do need a second hand dealer license.

That's kind of like having a garage sell. You don't need a license to have one of those.

Not really. Just register for E-bay if you wana do this in mass scale. Now look we advertise products in the Newspapers, do we need license ? no right? its simple as that.

I think it is better to keep a licence because for any reason if ur caught by someone,u will be on the safer side with the licence.So better keep a licence.
