Moby Dick.
This is the most profound novel ever written. It deals with the most important questions that man has asked himself:
What is man's place in the universe?
What is the meaning of pain, loss and sorrow?
How can God allow suffering in this world?
What is the source of true knowledge?

No other book comes close in its depth and profundity (as well as humor.) Read it.
