of course depending on what the stone is ..... but for your case you should take it to a graduate gemologist call the jewelery stores around you to see if any of there employees are gemologists they will be able to tell you most gem identifications will run you $15 but if you want more like an appraisal that will run you more

Armed only with a 10x loupe, a good gemologist will probably be able to tell based on the inclusions observed in the stone.

However, the high quality of many synthetics can make a "fake" gemstone look natural, right down to the inclusions! So that even for seasoned gemologists, differentiating natural gemstones from their synthetic counterparts and imitations can be difficult.

There are also many tests that you can conduct with basic instruments (such as spectroscopes, refractometers, dichroscopes etc.) that can help you identify the gemstone in question.

The only way to be able to get it right most of the time is to get a gemological diploma, examine as many stones as possible, and keep up with the industry through books, publications and contacts.

Hope that helps!

properly amythist often isn't that high priced in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's expensive in spite of if that's a good sized ring that's maximum in all likelihood pretend. you are able to tell by using the noise it makes by using hitting the floor (does no longer attempt) actual makes a pointy tone and pretend makes a lifeless tone. the way it shines in the easy and how that's shrink. yet somewhat the main suitable thank you to be certain is to in basic terms flow to a jewlrey shop.

Take it to a jewler. They have ways... Personally, unless it's my wedding ring, I really don't care- my synthetic saphire is just as pretty...
