the misspelling of a name makes the statement made not pertain to the person it was intended to pertain to
if i say TIM robbed a bank and TOM actually robbed it, i have done TIM an injustice, slandered him and let TOM get by with the actual robbery
if your grandfather leaves you a million dollars and can't spell your name right, you will have to spend a lot of money and time in court with a good lawyer proving who you are and wondering why your name was misspelled to begin with
if you have a child that you love and adore and give it a name to be spelled the way you want it spelled, it should be spelled that way throughout its life...unless they go to court with a lot of money, time and a good lawyer and they change it!
i do geneology, too, and it is very difficult to trace a family tree without correct spellings...sometimes a bloodline varies by only one letter!

I figure if you can't take the time to find out how to spell my name correctly, you shouldn't be using it! A mis-spelled name looks like someone picked it up off junk mail. Or worse.

court case the other day. 2 women, Different addresses, same last name, same middle initial, but Elisa was having Lisa's unpaid bills show up on her credit report and had even been sued for a few bills. What a difference that "E" made

So you make a good impression, and you don't confuse the person with someone else who may spell their name slightly differently.

first of all to show respect and to make sure its the rite person....a small change in the spelling may change the whole name and may be altogether to another person...

Because if you spell someone's name wrongly they might be offended by it.
