Usually it's around 6 months but it depends on your baby. Talk to your doctor about it. He/She should be able to tell you better then just a random Joe Schmoe on Yahoo Answers!

hi
i am a doctor
you can start feeding your baby at 4 months
though ideally it should start at 6 months
as the baby gets used to the food you use,
you can gradually keep thickening the food over a period of six months

remember the food is not sterile food like breast milk
no matter how much cae you take
the baby is likely to hve loose stools
if the child is eating regularly
and is not lethargic
and shows regula activities
u need not worry
but in other cases get to a nearby doctor

babies are tender and loose fast

we started trying at about 2 weeks (4 kids - 3 boys 1 girl) the child will let you know it's ready by taking the food without problems. go slow and don't force it. some babies wont take solid food for months. One of my sons was actually gnawing on rib bones at three months, but he did have six teeth by then. another on of my babies wouldn't take solid food until he was almost 5 months. All 3 boys are over 6 feet tall and show no signs of problems with eating

You need to speak with your baby's doctor before starting on any foods. Most doctors say to wait until 4-6 months. Starting too early or too late can cause allergy problems, and also starting to feed too soon can lead to childhood obesity and diabetes.

@3-3 1/2 months when you feel that he/she is ready.
If you ever get it too thick add a little fruit to it but be careful with the berry fruit that can sometimes give babies diarrhea. I don't know how you mix yours but I alkways used formula after it was mixed with the water.

Once they start getting used to the idea and they start really gumming it instead of trying to eat it as if it were a bottle. If they start to gag a little, it's too thick. Just give them more liquid and it will go down. Enjoy your baby, it goes by sooooo fast;)
