As are Hummers.
Do you believe that in these times, when environmental issues have an effect on us all, when a large protion of the violence in the Middle East is a result of our fight to obtain as much oil as possible, when these bigger vehicles are responsible for guzzling more gas and causing double the amount of road accidents since their inception than any other vehichle, even four door sedans, that driving an SUV, especially a Hummer, is political, socially, and personally irresponsible?

And to amglo1:
23 MPG's??? Wow, to think that you think that is
impressive or practical.
Where do I get my information about SUV's causing more accidents: Um, well, for one thing, I read. You should try it, click here:

Touchy feeley? I think it's amusing that you consider someone's interest in saving the environment and trying to tackle a big PUBLIC (you know PUBLIC? That means everyone,) health issue. My agenda is not leftist. My agenda is humanist. I care for the world and it's people, unlike you who apparently wants to rant and rave about other problems without answering my question,"They want to kill me, too?", what does that have to do with anything that I am talking about? Hmmm...NOTHING!
Here's some more reading for you, too:

Where do you people come up with this shite?
They are not safer by any means, in no way shape or form. USe your brains and look it up. And as far as all of you defending your SUV use because it helps you cart your kids around? I think that is very ironic given the fact that are polluting the atmosphere at a greater rate which your precious little one's will have to deal with in the future.

And to love to be curious:
Parrot follower? That's hysterical! Hmm.. where did you hear that from, one of the several other hundred people who have used that term in here?
Blissfully ignorant? I have my Masters Degree in Environmental Science. What are your credentials?

Yes. And not just because they are gas guzzlers, but because they give unskilled drivers a false sense of competence that endangers others.
I'm a Republican, by the way.

My SUV gets 23 mpg, hauls eight people and is safer than most cars on the road. Where do you get the info that SUV's cause 2x the road accidents, Get a clue..bad drivers cause accidents. Politically irresponsible, how about blocking drilling in Anwar..that is irresponsible! If you think the middle east is about oil then you have your head in the sand, it's about lunatics that want to kill us, be as touchy feeley as you want but they want to kill you too. I swear, I have never seen a forum so large that is used by so many idiots. This is a question board, not a place to spout your leftist agenda and try to garner support.

Get off your "high horse"!
SUV's are safer by a long shot than other smaller vehicles. And, if you can afford one... buy it!
Or, as you say, you can join all the politically and socially responsible crowd and be a parrot follower without a brain for the true facts with no original ideas of your own.
Most of us choose to look at the "real" facts and then decide for ourselves what's fact from fiction... and you my dear have obviously fallen prey to fiction!
I know ignorance is bliss, but you need to get educated and quit following the "Pied Pipers" on the left!
(Politically correct... who gives a rat's?!?!?!)

Be patriotic and drive a vehicle that is fuel economical or efficient.
BTW if you have a speed boat you are guzzling fuel and that ain't patriotic dude. We need to be less dependent on oil producers in the Middle East and in the changing political climate of Latin American countries who are turning leftist.

well...you could say that....but they are useful in a way of their own.. but according to me ...using an suv just pack your kids to leave them at the school next street is a waste. i have seen guys drive a hummer to work.. what the whole point of bringing a beast to work when the same could be done with a more efficent small size car.......well im sure who can afford hummer can afford a small car easily ( they can get one for the interest they pay for hummer)..
Socially these people are giving trouble to their society in two manners... one enviromentally as these truck just need a litre of gas just to ignite....second wasting non-renewable sources of energy... could have been for better use by someone else.

i just bought one jeep gc i think its great and who says that they are all gas guzzlers mine gets 20+ mpg and living in alaska i definatly need it can you imagine going to work in a car when the roads are compleatly covered in ice and snow (like no sight of road at all) and not only that there is lots of uses for suv's how dare anyone say its unpatriotic ..... my husband is in iraq been in roadside bombs and has had friends die for your stupid "economy" cars i like them and all they have there uses but to call all suv owners unpatriotic makes me think your an ignroant **** it makes me so angry what do you have to loose huh what its a car get over it if you can afford one and buy one then you need to know the gas mileage is a little lower and not complain you know what you got yourselves into when you bought one deal with it .... i think that the environment will not be horribly harmed by our suvs try all the bombs and burning buildings they have in iraq or all the oil mines burning there..... when that can stop or when we can stop all of the toxic waste leaking into our earth by garbage dumped in landfills or toxic fumes created by business then i'll worry about my little extra smog created by my small suv (BTW some of these comments were not directed at the question asker but also directed to some of the previous answers given as well)

stupid to make stupid to market, and stupid to buy. Anyone who actually has one is narcissistic and doesn't care about anything but theselves, but will be the first to ***** and moan because of the price if gas.
terrible road hogs which don't fit the size of the roads. Tire sellers love to see these idiots pull in, cause they know those tires are 175 bucks a piece.
