PLEASE, IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH HOMOSEXUALITY AND YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY, PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY RESPONSES TO THIS QUESTION. THANKS!
we are two femmes and would like to avoid the church thing but we would still like to walk down the aisle, wear wedding dresses, have a wedding party
we want the ceremony to represent LOVE not necessarily lesbian relationships and don't want to be over the top in such a way that it would offend guests
also, we're looking for some unique reception ideas

chicken: if you're a girl, maybe you can join the honeymoon.... just kidding!
irene c... not sure that i understand your response
c3ss... we currently live in florida (which will likely be the LAST state to allow same sex marriage but luckily, I'm Canadian, where same sex marriage is legal, so we'll likely head up north to get the marriage license but have a ceremony down in the states
thanks for all the ideas so far everyone!!
i was thinking that for the wedding party, instead of having groomsmen and bridesmaids, to have four different sets of couples walk down the aisle
1 - a heterosexual couple
2 - a gay couple
3 - a femme-femme couple
4 - a femme-stud couple
i figure that this will show that love can come in many different forms, what do you think?

First of all, congratulations! What a wonderful thing for the two of you to share!
I'm a lesbian as well, and my wife and I had our committment ceremony 4 years ago. In fact, our anniversary is in a few weeks.
We did have our ceremony in a Unity church, but if you prefer to have your wedding somewhere else, is there a park or public garden somewhere close to you? Get rose petals for the "aisle" and that's what you can walk down. My wife and I went to a craft store and got one of those big grapvevien wreaths. We decorated it with ribbons that were our colors and then when we sent out invitations, we asked everyone to bring some trinket or memento that represented them, or their relationship to us. We had everyone attache the trinkets to the wreath right before the ceremonyThat, along with flowers is what we carried down the aisle! It was so meaningful. Even folks who couldn't be there sent stuff, so it was like having all of our "families" with us.
Keep it simple, that's my best advice. And don't be afraid to accept help. She and I did everything! From the food, to all the planning and flowers.....when it's legal, we're going to do it all again......and hire a wedding planner! lol
congratulations again. I hope some of this helped.

I am in the 'lifestyle'. A Mistress, and I am marring another Dominant. We are going to have two weddings. One that is for family and the ones that don't necessarily agree with Our lifestyle, and one that is a lifestyle wedding. Were both He and I dress Our parts. Having a play party, during the reception.
While during the normal one, I will be in a dress...He in a tux. The cake and the toast will be at the reception.
During the lifestyle party, I will be Mistress. He will be Master. We will wear Our leathers. There will be a cake just a different type of cake. The decorations will be different from .'normal' weddings. Why because that is part of Us..much like your being lesbian is part of you. While alot may not agree with lesbians getting married, I Think if the love is there..good for you. You go Girls...:D. Perhaps you can have two different ones. One that is the normal formal wedding and another that is more pertaining to the lifestyle that you lead. Having the friends you've gained as you have grown into your lifestyle.

walk down the aisle together.
any local foods at the reception would be nice. Such as seafood if you are near the ocean.
A theme would be good--beach, fiesta, Hollywood, art deco, etc.
the more candles the better, such as all white candles of differnt sizes scattered all over in many diff. glass holders.
Photos of the 2 of you used as decor, also paper copies to use as place mats. Sepia colors look good for this.
Best plan is happy smiles. Last wedding I went to everyone commented on how happy the couple was.
Inexpensive idea is to go to craft store for 12 by 12 scrapbook paper which comes in a zillion colors and patterns. These can be placed alone or in groups on the table tops.

Yay for you two getting married! Keep your love strong!
Anyway, there are many romantic things you two could do. Writing your own marriage vows to each other is something I would consider doing. It would mean so much more than just repeating stock vows!
If either of you has any creative talent, try making something for the other that symbolizes your love and presenting it during the ceremony.
Finally, for the reception, why not have a masque (i.e., a *fancy* costume party) ?
Best of luck to you, and blessed be!

My fav thing I've ever seen at a wedding was that they gave disposable camera on the tables at the reception. That way the friends and families could take pics. They still had pros done, but the pics they got from the people were great! Good Luck and many blessed years together!

why not have the wedding vows and reception at the same place, where you could possible have an archway set up to walk through, and say your vows.(. which you could each write yourselves ) in front of your loved ones, and immediately begin your reception right afterward... a unique wedding idea would be to have a drag show type of singer or DJ... and you could vary the reception by having it all buffet style or a sit down family style dinner, and you could have an unusual cake like a brownie cake, or a small tiered cake and pastries for the guests...my best wishes to you both for a life time of love and happiness!!!!!!!!!

Wow! That's great! I congratulate you in advance! ☺
Hhhmmm... let me think....
A nice garden wedding would do... or a beach wedding with beach wedding dresses! You might want it on top of a tall building to make it more adventurous! Or a lake/river wedding on a steam boat or something like that.
I wish you and you partner all the best in life. God bless you!
I hope you would want a child in your relationship to strengthen the bond.
By the way, what state/country are you in?

have you tried some of the lesbian oriented web sites?( havent read rules here, not sure if I can list any on these boards.) many of them have entire sections on couples, marriage, etc.
some of the better ones have message boards too- you will probably find better luck asking on there than here.
Best wishes to you two!
I personally think which ever way you want to go, as long as you are true to your personalities, your wedding will be great.

Try a baptist church if you want an aisle. The Baptist church is much more open to gays than the other denominations.
Unfortunately... my ideas for a wedding consist of an orange tuxedo, alcoholic jello by the bowl full, and a chainsaw being used to cut the cake. I think every last one of my ideas would ruin the "love" aspect of any wedding.
