no. we hate because we dont understand those we hate. because we cant, or choose, not to understand, the automatic next option is to hate, think others are freaks. pass judgement. etc etc. we hate cause we choose not to understand.

I think people hate because of perception, whether the perception is correct or not is not taken into account if the one hating thinks his perception IS correct. This unfortunately opens the pathway for hating unjustifiably, if we for instance, hate someone just because of something we "heard" or "read" which was totally fabricated and untrue, but we take as true! Hate is most often based upon the "known" or "seeming known". Fear can sometimes be a factor in hate, I suppose, but oftentime fear is generated by the unknown... and does not always culminate in hate, nor is it always the cause of hate. I would say hate is, by and large, caused more from a knowlege of something than the unknown; from abhorrance of another's actions or choices in life, for instance, from deeds and actions and lifestyles repugnant to the hater... And that builds, unfortunately, a platform for ratcheting up the hate factor between two or more people, or causing escalation of hate even to the point of violence. So how mind-melting must it have been for the people in the time of Christ, and even now when he is read, to hear the words from the master's mouth, "In the past it has been told you to hate your enemy, but I say unto you love your enemies, forgive one another, and so be the children of the Father in heaven who sends his rain on the crops of the just and the unjust, his sun each day to warm the good and the bad. God is no respecter of persons, his love calls out to all "Love one another". Isn't it time for that to happen? What would happen if one day the whole world could just forgive everyone and start over???

I think you are right, in a sense. I think we hate because we are feeling betrayed in some way from those that we hate. We put trust in them, for what ever reason, and in whatever capacity, and our expectations were not met. WE hate them for that, because we believed a situation would have a different outcome. And, I guess we are afraid of them too, because they were able to win our trust without our seeing through them. They make us question our ability to make good choices where people are concerned. WE hate them even more when we realize that we could have made other wrong decisions. Now we don't know what to think about anyone. WE hate them because we would rather have not known all of this at all.

We hate because of our ignorance of the people we hate. And yes, I also believe fear plays a part. Enlightenment and education will help us be less hateful. Glory be to God.
