The skin is the largest sense organ, with numerous nerve receptors distributed in varying concentrations throughout its surface. The nerve fibers from these receptors travel to the brain.
Skin receptors give rise to what are known as the cutaneous sensations of pressure, temperature, and pain. Research has not established a simple connection between the various types of receptors and these separate sensations. Because the brain uses complex information about the patterns of activity on many different receptors to detect and discriminate among skin sensations, a direct connection between receptors and sensations has so far eluded researchers

SKIN? What's the rest of the sentence, you didn't give us enough to go on.
'Twacha' or skin is a dnyanendriya (sense organ). It is one of the other sense organs viz. the eyes, ears, nose and tongue. Mind plays an important role in interpreting the messages received from various sense organs. Hence it has been termed as 'Ubhayatmaka indriya' (which is included in both:-viz. dnyanendriya and karmendriya)
The skin is the largest sense organ in the body. It is extensive throughout the body. The prime deed of the skin is to sense the feeling of touch or 'Sparsh'. Besides this it also has a great cosmetic value. The glow on the skin defines the health of a person. A fair or dark skin may look less attractive if it does not look healthy. Rather than the colour the radiance decides the beauty and health.
Ayurved describes the formation of skin as the cream over milk. The better the health, the better the quality of skin.
