I just recently sold my first item on eBay and I accept PayPal payment only. I always see people's auctions with "will send payment upon payment CLEARING." How exactly do I know if the payment has cleared? Is it by looking at paypal.com and seeing that under STATUS for the transaction it says "Completed"? Does that mean it has cleared? I received an e-mail from PayPal that says "Notificiation of an Instant payment received." Does that mean it has cleared as well.

For future reference, does my PayPal balance as seen on home page of PayPal indicate ALL CLEARED FUNDS?

"Notification of instant payment received" means that the buyer has paid you and the money has been deposited in your Paypal account. Go to your account overview to see, it will state that the transaction is cleared-that means you have been paid.
Instant payment is when the buyer has money in their Paypal account and pays from it. If they pay thru Paypal from their bank account, the transaction shows as 'Uncleared' in your account overview until the money is deposited into their Paypal account and transfered to yours, then it will show as 'Cleared'
DO NOT SHIP UNTIL PAYMENT IS CLEARED!!!!

If it states that it's completed, you don't have to worry. The only time that you have to wait for a payment to clear is if someone sends payment via "e-check" that can take days to clear & does not always! When you receive notification from paypal, it will indicate if it is an instant payment or if the funds need to clear first. Good luck!

Check your paypal account. It'll list the status of the payment. Most paypal transactions clear upon the purchase if they are used with a credit card. When you have a bank account to check back with it may take 5-10 days. Usually it took 5 days for me.

Yes once the status of the transaction says completed you have received all money and it is in your paypal account. And the paypal balance does indicate all cleared funds.

Completed means it's cleared. Instant means just that instant. eChecks take like 5 days, and will say pending.

Be careful with PayPal. They like to put holds on people's accounts, and will hold your money for 180 days without any explanation, just because they can!

Good luck!

yes it will say cleared when it done. i wouldnt use paypal. they can freeze your account and take your money and there is nothing you can do to get it out. i had a nigerian buy a ipod from me with a buy it now. i didnt know him, all i know i got a email saying it was sold and i sent invoice. well he emailed me telling me he was doing paypal. he sends me a weird link. wasnt paypal. but since he did that, they froze my account and all my money that i made that day. when you get a payment. pul it out immediately. paypal isnt a bank and they are not fdic insured.

Instant Payment is exactly that, it shows in your PayPal register as completed because it is.

it will state 'cleard' instead of 'uncleared'- it usually tells you how many days it takes to clear the funds as well.
