Your period doesn't usually start until after you take the first inactive pill or so. It takes a little while for your body to realize tht there's a hormonal change and begin the menstrual cycle, particularly if you've just begun using the pills.

But you can always just skip the dummy week and go right onto the next pack, avoiding your period all together. There's no medically necessary reason to have that dummy week. It was a marketing ploy when the pill first came out on the market because manufacturers thought women would freak out if they didn't have a period every month. (Yeah, right...what the hell were they thinking?!?!?)

And the inactive pills are not a different strength. They are dummy pills and contain NOTHING. If you don't believe me, check your packet that comes with your pills. They'll give you a break down of what is in each group of pills. There are no hormones in the pills on your period week.

My period always started 3 days after starting the inactive pills. If your period does not start in a few more days take a test. Also, it is not healthy to skip your period by going to the next pack every month. I also know someone that did that because she was going on vacation and she ended up bleeding the whole time she was in Mexico. The person below claiming to be a nurse is not a very good one. The nurse at my OB/GYN's office told me that the inactive pills are just iron pills. No hormones in them. Don't trust someone on here when they say they are a nurse, or doctor.

Birth-control is suppose to make your period come every month, so take your inactive ones. always take the one you should be taking don't skip a pill like that and go to the next pack it can make your period a mess, it won't come when it should.

If you do not take the placebo pills, you won't have a period. You should use a back up method during your first pack!! Taking the new pack won't cause menstruation, and if you've been doin the deed w/out previous contraception, you might be prego already. Sorry..
