For shimmer, I like this loose powder stuff that Clinique makes. It makes your skin look like it's glowing.
For smoothness, mainly it's the foundation that matters. Thinner foundations like liquids cover a bit, while heavier makeup lays on thicker and covers more. The Max Factor pancake is almost as thick as it gets. I also like CoverGirl's whipped foundation. It's thick enough to cover things like pimples, but it doesn't feel like you're wearing a mask. Clinique has a similar foundation, but it lays on a bit thicker. Sheer usually means thin and matte usually means thick.
If you're trying to cover alot of pimples, use makeup that gets rid of pimples, like Neurogena and Clean and Clear, and make sure any makeup you use is oil-free. Also make sure your face is free of makeup before you go to bed, and your face is clean, exfoliated and moisturized before putting on makeup. Put on acne medication before the makeup.

I would go with Mark's Face Xpert foundation or MAC's Hyper Real foundation. All over glow. Mark is going to be a light to medium coverage and MAC is going to be a medium to full coverage. Also, apply with a foundation brush. That will not matte out the light reflectors in the product. Also, as the other gal said, benefit's Highbeam is good too. but that is simply a liquid gold that you can brush on in selected places or drop into your foundation and comes in a small bottle. It's not inexpensive either. More for your money would be getting a foundation that is made to do what you are asking for. Good luck!

I swear by BeneFit's Highbeam. I dab a little in my foundation or tinted moisturizer for a little light deflection and then I'll dab some in the inner corners of my eyes, my brow bones, and my cheek bones---it's a fabulous product.

get "shower gloves" you can buy them at walmart. they have a rough, but not too rough texture. use your fav fashwash with them, and wash your face with them, even your whole body. it will remove the dead skin cells and roughness so your fresh skin can show!
