Sorry, but it was HIS office that really failed to respond to Katrina in the first place. So by giving the president power to mobilize the National Guard units will resolve his already proven failure. Gimme a break. He got lucky after 9/11 with the patriotic sentiment, rode that out, got re-elected, and has since proven his worth(lessness) as a national leader. Our economy has faultered, although high gas prices are supposed to improve that. He has our armed forces commited to a country that is no longer under stable leadership (ruthless dictator though he was, how many deaths before we have a worse record than he did?). He's failed to respond well to any other challenge his office as faced. Homeland Security is an expensive way of managing resources that were poorly managed to start with and remain troubled even though they are better funded and staffed. Can it get worse?

I agree that the federal government isn't completely to blame for Katrina's fiasco, but observe the handling of FEMA and its response. That was something Bush has within his power. But the decision to completely change the National Guard based on several individuals failure is absurd. Particularly when you consider the receipient shared the blame in the failure itself.

New Orleans is and will remain a disaster waiting to happen. For crying out loud its a city along the sea shore that is BELOW SEA LEVEL. Talk about mankind's arrogance towards nature.

I voted from him once. He lost but was still elected then. Though traditionally I vote Republican, I look forward to his departure with great hope towards his replacement.

He is trying to avoid a draft. That is good but it will only delay the
the obvious. Bill Clinton's world police department is apparently another continued policy issue. I think all should start thinking about who and what is next. Bush is at a loss for ideas. War is not a typical solution to any problem. Someone should come up with the next choice before the establishment decides that for us.

Wow. You guys really do believe what you hear without thinking about it at all. I don't agree with everything that Bush has done but if you do your homework you will find that he's not nearly as bad as the liberal propaganda makes him out to be. And by the way, doesn't the City of New Orleans and their "wonderful" mayor have some major blame in the Katrina issue? I mean they knew the storm was coming and they've known for decades how devastating a major storm could be to the city. Instead of being prepared, they were caught with their thumbs up their cracks.

Blame the morons in Dumbfuckistan (middle America) that elected him twice. The same ones that wanted Bill Clinton's head on a stick and will defend Bush till he shoots himself. May that be sooner rather than later.

I can't see how anything would be improved by federalizing the Naational Guard. It's traditionally been under the control of each states governor. If it ain't broke dont fix it.
