It would be 'consummate', particularly since you remember it from a wedding. A marriage is considered 'consummated' after the couple has intercourse, making it 'complete' and legally binding. Even today, if a marriage is not consummated, a couple can get an annulment almost immediately, without going through formal divorce proceedings. Rather archaic, but there you have it.
