It may sound better and even seem to have a little more speed.
But you better check your state DMV. In most states the catalytic
conv. is the law. If you remove it it will never pas a state inspection. You may also face a noise violation if you are ticketed.

If you're going to 'bypass' the DMV, it's better to remove 'only' the catalytic converter. It's not gonna sound any better regardless, just louder and 'those' engines do not sound 'good' as in Porsche, etc.
Removing the converter lets your engine breath better and there's nothing in your exhaust system to clog up. Never remove a muffler or resonator for the sake of the sound of the engine. If nothing else, it's aggravating to hear those repulsive cars with 'straight outs' on 'em. They hurt everyone's ears except the driver's!

It's a Cavalier for crying out loud!! How good can it possibly sound? There is not a 4 or 6 cylinder motor yet that can match the sweet sound of a V-8 exhausting through a pair of glass-pac mufflers and dual exhausts.

If you take the Catalytic convertor off it will not have enough back pressure in the exhaust system and it will run bad. Just buy one of those big soup can mufflers for it and it will sound just as crappy as those import tuner cars.

FIRST DOWNFALL------MOST FOUR CYLINDERS REQUIRE BACKPRESSURE........WHEN YOU HEAR THESE FOUR CYLINDERS MAKING FUNNY PUTTERING NOISES WHEN SLOWING DOWN.........THEY ARE BURNING THE EXHAUST VALVES AND GUIDES......IN ORDER TO KEEP THE TUNER NOISE SIMPLY REPLACE YOUR MUFFLER-----ELIMINATING THE CAT AND RES. MAY ONLY HURT YOUR CAR.
