I really hate those things. Any supporters out there?

My issues are not with the phones themselves, but the lack of common courtesy while using them... especially in restaurants! I can't for the life of me fathom why people will stand there blathering about all of their personal business among total strangers as if everyone were deaf. And if they glance up and see you starting at them in utter amazement they glare at you as if you've committed a faux pas!

You do not have to own a cell phone or like them. When cell phones first came out, I noticed that the only people who had one were those who wanted to be noticed. Now, whenever I hear someone on a cell phone, they are talking way too loudly, drawing attention to themselves, and babbling about nothing important at all. Just once I'd like to hear a doctor giving someone life saving instructions to someone on the other end of the line, or a judge granting a last minute stay of execution to a death row inmate so I can at least feel that not everyone who blathers on in restaurants, supermarkets, long lines at the bank, or anywhere else, is simply being rude and not caring that the rest of us don't want to hear about how drunk they got last night or that their boss is a real jerk. Don't get a cell phone and continue to be admired by the likes of me.

I use to think the same. At 44 I got one this last November after I was robbed at gunpoint. They are expensive and many abuse the hell out of them.

I finally got one after not having one while all my friends got one. I'm really happy with it and I love calling people for free after 7 and on weekends :)
