This is a subjective question, difficult to separate from social and cultural issues. We are free to purchase stock from any company, the proper qualifier is subjective. The question itself poses more questions. To keep in short, if the government of the developing nation sanctions child labor, then it is legal, perhaps beneficial to the population in terms of spreading income. If child labor is illegal, it is probably not "proper." The free-market system has enabled companies to outsource to lower cost manufacturing centers, so if the shoe company is following the local and domestic regulations, then it is a legitimate operation and could be "termed" proper, from a legal perspective. From a moral pespective, the question is loaded. Years ago, in inner cities United States, child labor was employed by large newpapers to deliver their newspapers. The children welcomed these "paper-routes" and delivered their papers in the morning for pocket money. Did the New York Daily News use child labor? Yes. Did the hardworking children earn their money? Sure. Do developing nations have the right to determine what is legal in their jursidictions? Absolutley. Do developing nations have the right to attract companies that employ their people, children included? One should hope so. Do companies have the right to determine their cost structure. Yes, at least for the present. Is slave labor acceptable? No.
Do you have the right to purchase stock at your discretion? Yes, and if you approve of the situation (i.e. satisfied that there is no "slave labor" - and your analysis that your stock purchase leads you to believe you will get a return on your investment, then it is proper to purchase stock).

I'm not sure how you're defining the word proper here. It can be seen as unethical and/or immoral, and there are people who would refuse to do so for that reason. However, it's legal even if it's distasteful. Using child labor or slave labor keeps manufacturing costs down, which leads to higher profit margins and more money for stockholders; some people believe it's not worth the money and refuse to participate for ethical or moral reasons.

is it a topic that u have been given?
To purchase stocks from such companies means to encourage child labor.Child labor is against law and ethics. So it is better to fight against such companies. These children should be educated and have all the rights to play and enjoy like other normal children. They work because they need money. But a better alternative to this would be to get these children into orphanage if they don`t have parents or to give their parents the job instead of doing child labor.
Got some idea?you better say against the topic.
bye

It's a personal ethics question.
You could say yes because the children are kept off the streets and bring money home to help feed the family.
You could say no child labor is never right.
Your choice.
Speaking of ethics, why not do your own homework?

I'm not sure if it is proper or not, but I saw a program once that interviewed the kids and parents of the children who had to work for a clothing line. When their jobs were taken from them , because Americans thought it was wrong for children to work,( i wish they didn't have too) The children starved and died. They unfortunately NEED the work. I think it is wrong for companies to pay them so little.

No, alot of people would not approve of the child labor so it would not go over well in America. Here you need to be 16, with the accept ion of voluntary things like, mowing grass, paper route, baby-sitting.

improper, because , not only is it wrong to force children to work unfair hours at unfair wages, but it bogs our economy down by not paying our own adults here in this country, a fair wage, keeping our companies money to support our economy here. Children are ultimately harmed by these practices, and by "outsourcing" labor , it takes away from our jobs here in this country. When you support companies and buy stock, and products produced in america, you are raising America's ability to support herself.

You can if you want, but it's not morally right. You're supporting a company that uses children to work for next to no pay. Meanwhile, the companies are worth millins, if not billions.

of course, if it is a good quality then why not...child labor is depend on the nation's policy and it is their problem not the company...i think, buying them will help childrens who work for their own survival...do you think children will work if they have capacity to live with?not exactly...they are working for their survival and as a buyer, you can help them so much...
