LOL Yes is the correct answer.
I knew a guy who due to cerebral palsy could not talk or write or even walk. He was treated as retarded all his life from the time he was a infant. His parents abandoned him to the state. Then one day someone was paying attention when he was attempting to communicate. It ended with lots of people asking some very subtle questions and him answering. A specially designed IQ test as given him his IQ was 110.

During conversation, there are several components that are the responsibility of the person that is the listener, while he is listening, and there are responsibilities of the speaker, while he is doing the speaking. The matter of intelligence comes into question until it is apparent how well one an other communicate. If someone were the most academic person around, why, we would probably consider them pretty intelligent, where as, someone that was average or below, we might consider them not so intelligent. The truth of the matter is, all the intelligence in the world, will not help one in communicating if there is not a mutual desire to truly make each of your wishes known, each of you gain a second perspective, if need be, each of of you are sharing on ideas and each of you are actively listening. I know that it is not possible to communicate with certain people, but I don't feel that is because of intelligence. At least not in the text book meaning, more along the lines of not taking the opportunity to communicate well , is kind of stupid.

How do you define intelligence? If you base it on verbal reaction and accumulated information, then you only consider individuals who can speak. Conversation is not a good way of measuring intelligence, i think. you have to have a common ground to converse. you have to assume that both parties are well informed on a topic for both to interact but that does not always equate to either party being intelligent. just so happens that they know that topic. unless if you are talking about logical and theoretical ideas, conversation is not a good measure. Take for example Sherlock Holmes, he doesn't know anything about astronomy...but does that mean he is stupid? how about a physicist talking to a medical doctor about string theory and quantum mechanics? they do not speak the same language game yet you can't fully say that one party is dumb simply on the basis that they are not in-depth on an issue. there are many types of intelligence. one just has to consider intersubjectivity consensus to be considered intelligent.

No, I don't believe that just conversation measures a person's intelligence, sometimes very intelligent people have thought processes that are simply too fast to be able to articulate concretely. Or, as in my case, I tend to get nervous and shy around people that I don't know well and can't seem to get an intelligent thought out. Put me in front of a crowd and I babble like an absolute idiot in spite of my 142 IQ.

Someone can be mute and/or deaf and still be able to think and reason intelligently. They can either use sign language or write their responses. Conversation would indicate the spoken word so in that respect it is not the only intelligent means of communication.

I think that is dependent on the communicator/communicatees definition of intelligence. By our defenition, we are smarter than bees, because we can talk to them. But we can't tell bees where the pollen is to make honey (bees do a "dance" to notify other bees where pollen is". So to bees we may not be intelligent (assuming they can reason such thoughts). Not that it is all that intelligent to talk to bees in the first place, but for the sake of the arguement, there you go.

NO conversation doesn't measure intelligence...some people have problems getting there thoughts out ,it doesnt mean they dont have intelligence.....information is always open to misinterpretation..

I think intelligence is basically the ability to think, to know, to learn regardless of whether that ability can be shown or communicated. I don't think intelligence can be measure period.

I think some people are smarter, and therefor be better at conversation. However, two smart people can just not have conversation chemistry.
