I saw on a police show on A&E that when people lie, they look and to the left because that's actually the side of the frontal lobe where lies and stories come from. Some people sweat profusely; during the 1st presidential debate, some people say the real reason Kennedy beat Nixon is because Nixon was sweating so bad, people thought he was lying.
Try asking the same question different ways or at different times and take note of the answers to see if they match up.

I read in a study that when a person is lying their eyes will make an involuntary movement to the left more than once.I have used that and it works. But some people can pass a lie detector test with flying colors and still be lying thru their teeth. So I'm not sure what really works, lying is so counter productive for everyone.Ive known people that could look you dead in your eyes and lie lie lie,so don't trust that one.The real problem is the fact that most liars ,even lie to themselves. That's just sad.

OH YES! There are many signals. The obvious is that the person won't look you straight in the eye when they are speaking to you. The others are, scratching the nose, tugging at their ear, and fidgeting. The best way to find out, is to ask the person, "Look me in the eye and tell me that". Then watch for the scratching and tugging. Also, watch out for this: Believe it or not, people will shake their head left to right when they are lying. It's amazing! Just watch a television commercial sometime. They are saying, "Oh, this is so delicious", when in fact, they are shaking their head from side to side, as if to say, "no". If a person is honest with you, they will nod their head up and down, as if to say, "yes". I really hope that this helps you. My worst pet peeve is liars. Good Luck!

No unless they're being sarcastic...I don't believe "lie detectors" can work, I mean how can a machine read your thoughts and tell if what you were saying is the same as what you know to be true or not? Why do people think that sweating is present during lying? I lie all the time, but I never sweat...

Yes, there is. FBI agents are trained to determine when people are lying. There are many characteristics that can be displayed by people who are lying. Not all of them apply to everyone. For example, failure to make eye contact does not always indicate someone is lying. It could be a cultural thing. But it can be part of an equation, such as fidgeting, lip biting and swaying. There are many things to look for. Some people will have a hard time telling a lie with a straight face. Like my ex husband, I could always tell when he was lying cuz he always had a "gotcha" grin on his face.

There are a number of bio signs that can indicate a person is lying to you but some people beat them all. The pupils may expand, many people will not look you in the eye or look to their left when they are telling the lie; some start perspiring. There are many little cues.

the eye contact doesnt apply all the times. im a person that have a hearing problem in the left ear so when a person talks to me i turn my head to the left to hear properly and lost eye contact, but im not lying.
Get to the local library and get a book on body language or Non Verbal Communication and you will get few tips there, since some people are trained or born with ability to lie.(politicians, lawyers for example) make a living of LOOKING credible.

There are ways if you know what to look for. An easy one is darting eyes, changes in tone of voice and fidgiting especially with hands. I you just look at the person and say nothing they might suspect that you are onto the lie and try to cover by explaining more of changing a statement.

There really is no way. Even machines which monitor so many body functions such as heart rate and sweat and brain waves can not say with 100% certainty when someone is lying so an experienced liar is going to be able to fool many many people.

The best way to detect lying is body language and eyes.
If the person will not look at you or is fidgiting about there is more chance that that person is lying. When in doubt ask questions to verify one way or another.
