Oooh. Controversial. I think it depends on the reader/audience. If you like a grand epic with serious themes of life and death and an obsession, then I guess Lotr is the one. But people who like alternate worlds where magic practicing students and creatures exist to fight an evil lord, the I guess Harry Potters good.
On second thought, they both sound the same, don't they...

It really depends on how old you are. younger people are mostly interested in the harry potter series of books becasue they are about young teens. the movies 4 harry potter also apply 2 the younger audience because it doesnt have adult themed things, so it would be more like a family film. the lord of the rings series are mostly 4 the mature readers, which can be kids, but people who are interested in that kind of thing. the lord of the rings happens 2 be my favorite, because it came first and is a classic, and the movies appeal more 2 me than the harry potters. but all in all, i think both are great.

I have seen them both and loved Harry Potter for it's youthfulness and intrigue.Love the magic and the different ways Harry can get into trouble.I love Lord of the Rings because I read all the books first and it was great seeing the characters come to life on the screen.It is geared toward a more adult audience because of the violence but it still was a great movie.

Well, they are two entirely different stories. BUT, in answer to your question: I love the Harry Potter books, but I love The Lord of the Rings books even more.

Harry Potter is far more entertaining than Lord of The Rings.. I would rather watch Hermoine Granger pick her nose than watch Frodo Baggins do ANYTHING.
