I would say a rabbit out of those two, but I have a bias against hamsters. I've never really liked them much- they are one of the laziest and least social small animals availible. I don't mean to offend anyone, as I said, this is personal bias.
Why not look into mice? They only take up as much room as a hamster but can live in small, friendly, social groups. Females don't have any more of a smell than hamsters, and don't take much work. A 10 gallon aquarium can house two or three female mice very nicely.
Mice make great pets for people of all ages. They can become very tame and social with their human caregivers and are a lot of fun to watch. They also come in all sorts of colours, markings, and fur types- there’s different mice for everyone!
Compared to many pets, mice are also pretty easy to take care of. As long as you have a suitable cage for the number of mice that you have, you only have to clean the cage once a week, which is very easy and not time consuming at all. They are the perfect pet for someone with a busy schedule, but also appreciate any time you can spare. Once tame, they’re also easy to handle.

well first off of course you would need to know what is allowed in your apartment building. but im sure you are already aware of that. aside from that its more down to a personal choice and what you like. hamsters obviously take up much less space. theyre little creatures that you could have much fun with but they can sometimes be a little frightened. most of the time a hamster will bite if you stick your hand into the cage too quickly. but none the less theyre fun animals. just know you need to earn their trust. rabbits are larger and require a bigger area and some space to roam around. theyre more generally more mellow (at least the domesticated ones). so its really what fits you. you could also walk your bunny if its big enough. the park would be great. just get it in a harness and you can go bunny walking! haha. good luck

Definately a pet rat. The domestic kind (usually 'Manchester Hooded'). They are just like puppies. I taught mine to come when called, fetch small objects (like empty matchboxes) and walk on a leash. You can take them anywhere, they are very intelligent and affectionate and have a life span of 2 - 3 years usually. And contrary to popular belief - they don't bite. They are easy to look after and the females don't smell. I would either get 1 or 2 females. You can also buy a 'runabout ball' that you place them in so that they can run around without chewing on your electrical cords etc, but they must not be used near stairs. Rats are much more interactive than mice and make excellent pets. I would recommend them to anyone who lives in an apartment / unit etc. They even lick you like a puppy!
The only reason I would not recommend a ferret is expense. They must be vaccinated and given flea protection just like a dog. Also, female ferrets will die from a build up of toxins in their system if they are not allowed to breed - unless you have them desexed.
Guinea pigs are also great pets but I think that rats are much more intelligent and interactive (and affectionate).
Rabbits also need vaccinations and must be kept in mosquito proof enclosures. I've never had a hamster but I imagine they would be much like a guinea pig in personality and temperment.
Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions.

I wouldn't get either a hamster or a bunny.I find Bunnies are very hard to litter train...they love to run through the litter playing and kick it all over, instead of doin their business in it..They also leave all these little black balls all over your floor....Had one I know! And hamsters do stink if their not cleaned often.A cat is a clean pet and usually quiet.!

Hamsters are small pets and they don't really do alot of things...And they feel safe in their cages...I would think a bunny rabbit would be more fun for you and i think they can learn to do some tricks...If you want a pet you can play with ,And have alot of fun with...I would choice the bunny...

Hamsters are not good pets in my opinion. You have to play with them a lot or they can get mean, and they can bite very hard. Plus you cant really take them on walks and stuff. Rabbits are hard to potty train, but you can get a harness for them and take them on a walk. Might be a slow walk though.

if you have the time and patience, get a puppy. that could put your park to good use. plus, they live longer so i suppose as long as you have the commitment you'll start to relaly love it.
if you're really busy already, get a hamster. they're much much much easier to take care of, and it's okay if you can't give them too much attention(although it's still best if you do) do note that hamsters generally have a lifespan of 2-3 years.
choose one that you like, and can take care of.
have fun! :)

Hamsters are better to keep bcuz they're not as messy and doesn't do their business everywhere unless u let him/her out of their cage. Bunnies are harder to litter train and is harder to catch bcuz they're so fast. If u do pick a hamster keep an eye on them bcuz they get lost easily. :) I had a hamster and a bunnie.
