I wanted to know what happens after movie 6, before I bought any of these books I wanted to know:
1. Are they any good?
2. Are they well written - in terms of style (I like reading novels).
3. After movie 6, what order should I read the novels (I've seen there are quite a few but I couldn't work out the order they came in.

I have read about six or seven of the New Jedi Order books. I found them to be very well written. Very exciting. Fast-paced. Couldn't put them down. I'd read a book a day. I found them to be better written than the novels based on the movies...particularly 4-6. The first 'novel' by George Lucas is quite pitiful in my opinion as a novel. And I've read 1-2 as well, I found them okay. But I didn't get past two or three chapters in the 3rd one. I found the style very unappealing.
In my opinion, The New Jedi Order are the best of the series. But I have read some of the ones written to take place earlier...years after the movies not decades. They were good enough that I didn't return them to the library unread or anything.

I believe the there are quite a few series, spinoffs and stand alone books made for the period after movie 6, The biggest series I think is the "New Jedi Order" its been awhile since i read it but while it was written well, the authors were good but I don't believe that they were great not anything special, stlye was interesting but it wasn't really able to hold you for long periods.
ummm... many of the spinoffs and stand alone books (eg. "I, Jedi") were really, really good but the series had an interesting story line but (An aggressive force-resistant species oreinttaed on BioTechnology tries to conquer the empire and destroy the fledgling Jedi academy on Yavin 4) The authors could have done better working the plot,
There are other sieries before this, about the academy and the Solo children which are in my opinion ok, some were pathetic while others left you wanting more, the order unfortunetly i'm not too sure but the "New Jedi Order" came after the "academy"/standalone books
