I am going on a Cruise in November with one of my best friends and her family. They been on a cruise before but this is my first time. I've heard through a few people that the dinners are pretty dressy. I was wondering if anyone had been on a cruise and could give me a few ideas as of what would be appropriate to wear. We are going on a Carnival Cruise. Any advice for going on a cruise for the first time would be helpful too. Thanks in advance for your help.

I wore a cocktail dress for the captain's dinner when I took a Bahamas cruise(on Carnival, incidentally! LOL). I would suggest something semi-formal: a cocktail dress as mentioned, a nice skirt and blouse, or semi-formal pants with a nice blouse.

I would advise against wearing jeans of any kind, including miniskirts. Have fun!

Other cruise advice: bring the following:
sunscreen, a hat or two, sunglasses, extra cash for tipping service staff, and easy-to-wear shoes, among other things. BRING DRAMAMINE or BONINE if you're prone to seasickness. If you're not sure, take one tablet of the above when you board just to ward off seasickness.

***above all: ALWAYS have your passport, room key and dining card/cruise "account" card with you! They are your two forms of ID onboard a Carnival cruise, and you will need your dining card/cruise account card to get on and off the ship when you dock at a port of call.

***Don't worry too much about your cell phone; turn it off and leave it in the armoire in the cabin, in fact. There are computers onboard for Internet use, but you will pay for Internet time and it's expensive. Just use the time to relax!

***MAP OUT your interesting destinations right when you get onboard. Locate the gym, spa, game rooms and clubs, or anywhere else you might be interested in going on the ship. Use a website(you can find them through Google) to get a floor plan of your ship before you go if possible. Makes it that much easier.

***There will be a midnight buffet! Make sure you get to the appointed dining room in time, but not late. UNlike popular belief, the buffet will actually start at 12:30, but they let people in to look at the food and ice sculptures beginning at midnight.

***ALWAYS have a camera with you! If you own a digital, by all means, bring it, but you might want to have extra batteries, or a disposable on hand just in case you see a great photo op.

***Carnival is a cruise line that requires a 21 year old to be in a cabin with any under-21 guests. Your friend's parents may or may not know this.

***You will need a credit card before you board, when you check in at your departure port. This is to set up your Cruise Account.

***Identify your luggage in some way so it doesn't accidentally get misplaced, and PRINT CLEARLY your cabin information on the tags the stewards give you. They will bring your luggage to your cabin for you.

***On the last day of the cruise, have your luggage outside your cabin door before midnight. The stewards will collect it for disembarking.

***Make note of your muster station at muster drill the first day.

As I said, have fun! Cruises are an enjoyable experience.

The dinners are a little dressy... My mom and sister wore skirts and heels to dinner each night except one. On our cruise, there was one night (known as "Formal Night") where the dress for dinner was 'black tie'. Most of the women wore prom dresses or evening gowns and the men all wore tuxes and suits.

We had a great time on our cruise. It is great fun! My advice is to RELAX... don't try to plan out every minute of your day! If you feel like lying out on the deck, then do it. If you wanna take a nap; If you wanna see a show; if you wanna go to the casino; if you wanna go to the clubs... etc. It's all about doing what you want to do for the duration of your time there.

Also, If you're going to the island of Jamaica, make sure to bring home some 12 year Appleton Estate Rum! You can only get it in Jamaica and there is no minimum age to buy alcohol, so anyone can buy it. It's the best rum in the world and is only $14 a bottle!

Live it up... A cruise vacation is what you make it... Do something you would NEVER ordinarily do (within limits, of course ;-D )!

The dinners are pretty formal. It's not like going out to Outback. The dining room is very grand, the meal is served in courses, you have several pieces of silverware. That kind of thing. I suggest either a gown or cocktail dress for the formal nights, and nice pants (no jeans) or a skirt with a nice top for the more casual/informal nights. I thought it was going to be horrible, 'cause I practically live in jeans, but it really wasn't that bad. You just wear that for dinner and the rest of the time you're free to wear what you want. You can even wear the same thing every night and I doubt anyone would notice (except for your waiter and the people you're sitting with). Also, I hope the food on your cruise is better than it was on mine.

Hope this helps. :)

well I've been on cruise dinners many times! my most resent on was on valentines day weekend! and they are pretty formal! i would recommend wearing a nice coral, aqua, pink or white dress! those are the color dresses that I've seen the most. it shouldn't be too long but not too short maybe to your mid calf. you should wear matching shoes but make sure that they are comfortable to certain extent, you don't want to wear really high heels to a cruise! trust me! you should also wear many matching accessories for your dress but don't go overboard, maybe like a necklace,a few bracelets,an anklet and maybe some rings, flowers or stuff like that for your hair.don't forget a jacket or coat because it can get cold! also i would recommend wearing your hair in an up do because it can be windy sometimes and don't forget sunglasses and if you are planning on wearing make up keep it light not too much dark eye make up or dark lip colors!

on a carnival cruise for 1 week I know they have 2 fancy nights in the dining hall. this means dresses and suits/tuxs. the rest of the nights wear semi-casual clothes. if you don't want to dress up you can also just go to their buffet restaurants. HAVE FUN!

Bring allot of clothes, dinner dressy, lunch, not so dressy, breakfast, not dressy, just nice looking. I've done one cruise, and that was enough, I really do not like getting dressed up.

on a cruise, you dress for dinner in a cocktail dress, and if you never been on a cruise before take along some dramamine.

Dress semi-formally, a medium length dress whith jewellery, don't go overboard though. Light make-up should be worn with heels to match your dress.<3

Most cruise dinners are pretty fancy. but if by chance you are going on a "free style"cruise it is much less fancy and you can dress however your please. You cruise-line should indicate if it is free-style or not
