I think they're incredibly sexy. I have a tongue bar. It was one of the only piercings I've ever craved to have.
The people who have answered this question so far need to get informed. You don't lose all of your tastebuds from a piercing. They are all over your mouth, not just in the one spot.
There is nothing wrong with *taking the bar out* when you eat (I do this, along with brushing my teeth (and both underside and top of my tongue) twice a day and flossing and rinsing and everything else normally, and I have no problems with dental hygiene). I also sterilise the bar (and all the other jewellery from my piercings) nightly, using salt in boiling water.
I do not play with my bar, that is bad for your teeth. You can chip tooth enamel doing it. Use plastic instead of metal.
The effects on pronunciation are from a badly placed piercing, not from having the piercing itself. Take it out, and second time around, get yourself a *decent* piercer if this is a problem for you.
Finally, it *does not hurt* to have it done. My navel bar was worse, way worse.
I've had my piercing for four years now, and it is still one of the best things I've ever chosen to do. If you are thinking about it, go for it!
I hope this has helped out :)

Personally, I never thought they were sexy. In fact, I thought it was kind of gross. Everytime my boyfriend took pictures he would stick out his tongue. It would bother me cuz all my pics of him are with his tongue out. Could never get a decent picture. A lot of friends of mine had them and when they would show their tongue rings I wouldn't focus on their rings but their tongues instead and would think to myself how disgusting because I always thought they could use a bit more cleaning. Don't people brush their tongues too when they brush their teeth. Then I keep seeing people just playing with their tongue rings and you see their mouths just moving around all day. Luckily my boyfriend took off his ring because it kept hitting the back of his bottom teeth and after awhile the bottom row of his teeth were very sore.

I think they are nasty! I be thinking about food being inside the tongue ring. eewh. The mouth already have to many other problems to worry about. For instance, brushing your teeth 3 times a day, saliva, Germs, and plague. Metal should not be in a wet place constantly. I think it is gross just thinking about it. But, I don't think less of people that get these piercings. I don't think it is that gross for other people to have them. I just can't do it!

They are nasty and unsanitary. Any and all food that you eat, gets stuck in the hole, and turns to bacteria. Your toothbrush won't reach it. Who would want to kiss you knowing they're kissing a mouthful of bacteria? And even if it doesn't start a bacterial infection, you must know that the human mouth is the biggest breeding ground of bacteria. They say a dog's mouth is cleaner, and they drink from the toilet, and lick each other's butts.

Do you like to watch people talk with their mouth full of food? It's the same thing, its gross, watching something bobbing around in someones mouth. Try accessorizing your best feature---or is your tongue it?

Not really. I can not stand to talk to someone who chews on the ring. You know what I mean. It also interferers with speech and pronunciation. Just not into them. I do love other piercings though.

it's sexy but the question shouldn't be are they sexy instead you should ask yourself if you feel sexy with it? Piercing are not for other people they are for yourself so if you like it that's all that matters
