More properly, they could be referred to as perpendicular universes; Universes which intersect our universe, and which use at least one of our dimensional references.
We may, in fact, exist simultaneously in at least one other perpendicular universe. Our existence as we know it may be analogous to a shadow of one of our other existence. We may all be "dimensional shadows" of greater multi-dimensional creatures, whose reality would be difficult to comprehend with our perception.
One theory holds that this is how we have consciousness, and what happens to our "souls" after we die.

To travel between a parallel universe there would have to a point where both space and time from both would exisit at the same time in a stable and open state. Quantum and standard phsyics belive that this impossible due to the out put of matter from one universe to another. The idea of having the exact same piece of matter as was created during the big bang to exist in a universe and then have it co-exist with it's self during this transfer has been , in theroy , thought that it would emplode upon it's self and creat a black hole. Thus every atomic particle that was transfered from our universe to another would end up creating a black hole at the point of where the two universe have met.

answer right now is no to both, but if string theory turns out to be the unification of Einstein's General Relativity and Quantum Physics than it looks like the "Possibility" of parallel universes could exist, The problem with getting to one of these "parallel universes" would be the distance we would have to travel to get to the edge or end of one of ours, that could be a hard feat to accomplish due to the fact that many people if not most people feel our universe is infinite in size. we believe that we're able to send small particles called gravitons into either another dimension or maybe into a parallel universe but that's up for debate right now, none of us will be alive to see something like this happen but maybe a few of us will be alive to see the unification of the two theory of GE and QP, that will be the start of a new world as we know it.

There is a theory in quantum psychics that says there are lots of universes and each of us are in everyone of them. But everything for us is different in each one, like things in our history were different causing different present times in each. Also they think our universe started when the membrane between each one bumped again each other. I would think if you wanted to get from one to the other, the place where our universe started would be close to the membrane. Guess it would be like hitting the back of something and knocking the dust off of it, it would fly away from it. I would think astronomy could tell where this is because everything would be coming from this point, and nothing going in that direction. Don't know if you could get through the membrane though, what would it be energy field or solid matter.
Quantum Physics also says that there are allot of things going on around you at the same time, but you only see what your looking for basically.

On theory, they do exist. To travel between them, it is still not possible now.

Run a search on the membrane theory. I'm not into physics, but that is a crazy concept, I read about it in National Geographic.

Yes, and yes. At this time, I count 11. Although, I am pretty sure there are an infinite number of universes. http://taobarbie.com
