Wars help the powerful stay powerful and the weak stay weak. I see absolutely no benefits to war. The argument for it clearing out excess population is terrible for a variety of reasons:
1. Modern warfare often leaves land destroyed for decades. Radiation, chemicals, and not to mention pollution from the vehicles used.
2. In modern warfare, only the country being attacked looses any of its civilian population when the attacker is across an ocean. Have any US citizens been killed by the Iraqi army on US soil? Plenty of Iraqis have been killed on Iraqi soil. Don't like this reference? How about Iraq dumping our chemicals all over Iran in the Iran-Iraq war? That works.
3. Nobody wealthy typically dies.

So, if you want to thin out the population, nothing works like a good, old fashioned epidemic. H5n1 is ****, so if you want a serious infection, we need anthrax or something.

Of course all of this is hypothetical, and I will assume you are not a sick ****. Otherwise, might I recommend inhaling deeply with your head under water?

Well i think war is the barbaric option of solving a conflict. and if you think its good for population control think about this. people don't have to be killed by man, when mother nature will soon be getting back at us for pollution. and don't you think that war causes plenty of damage to the earth on its own.
Yes sometimes a war needs to be fought. like the Revolutionary War.
But in today's world that isn't the situation.
How many people do you know who can say they have read the Declaration of Independence.
times have changed.

There are many more humane ways of controlling overpopulation
than war - birth control, for instance.

Indeed, war does bring about some positive aspects in the economy
medicine, science, engineering, etc. However, they are all at a
tremendous cost.

For instance, we learned an immense amount of medicine during
the American civil war - patching all of these people together
who lost limbs, etc to cannons. We learned alot about sterile
treatment, anesthesia, etc.

However, we could have learned it elsewhere without having to
go through one of the bloodiest per capita war ever.

Wealth and power comes with responsibilities. But will that improve mankind?I am a person that likes harmony. Nature has it own way of clearing what you have mentioned... Tsunamis? earthquake?

I would rather natural disasters come in than war, if it means a choice. At least during disasters, you see people coming together to help each other.

Try this, and you can find out for yourself:

1) Buy any rifle capable of shooting a .223 round,

2) Shoot yourself in the leg,

3) Sit is a ditch for 1 hour.

You'll have your answer!
