Guy at the store said you have to clean the filters after every use, and that the filters need to be replaced often. Is he full of it? And should i care about 1400 watts, 2200 wats etc?

I love my Bissell Powertrak. You save money on the filters because they are washable. You can get more life out of the one paper filter by blowing it out with canned air. You would not believe the stuff this thing pulls out of my rugs that I can't see. And their customer service is great!

I have had 2...I didn't like the Fantom because dirt/cat hair/etc would twist arount the cone and required pulling in off to clean it. Keep this in mind when buying one...Dyson is expensive but great!

There are one or two good ones -- check the Consumer Reports annual paperback.

The Fantom is flimsy, it unscrews itself and the screws get lost, and the filters are VERY HARD to work with. Don't buy one.

the Dyson is good and when I looked at one the salesman downplayed it to the point I bought the one he recommended, only to find out later that the Dyson is better.

All vacuums are basically the same and some have great marketing shoved at you.
But they all suck.
