I have one of those too!

I treat her with respect because she is my husband's mother and my kid's grandma...that being said...

You do not have to include her in daily chats about what is going on in your life. The less you tell her the less she will have to complain about. Just be pleasant (it hurts - I'm with you) but I have had to put up with it for 24 years and I know you can do it. Just don't share information with her. It's as simple as that!

She'll be around for a while, so you have to face her. It helps if you don't live too close to her, so you don't have to see her often or have her popping in to your home.

You could try two approaches other than that. Either try not to intimidate or threaten her--let her know her son is still her son, even though he's married to you. Make sure she knows he still loves her or whatever.

Another approach would the just the opposite. don't let her threaten/intimidate you. let her know it's not ok for her to keep ahold of her son't umbillicle cord. He's your husband. He chose you as the love of his life. tell her (in the kindest way possible) that she needs to let him loose and give you and him space!

Tell her, listen, I know you are my mother in law, but it doesn't matter. You are jealous and I don't want you to talk to me anymore, and as soon as we move out of your house, all that is going to take place.

Move at least 500 miles away from her because of "a better career track." Then seek to visit HER exactly once a year and discouage her from inspecting you, I mean visiting you.

The less often she sees your wife, the happier you are going to be. Your spouse needs to be "detoxed" from her maternal influences.

Avoid her as much as possible and do not let her get a rise out of you when you can't.
