A dodecahedron is a solid made of 12 faces, in the case of a regular dodecahedron, those faces are pentagon. If you take a soccer ball (or a fulerene C60 molecule for that matter) and enlarge each 5 sided face so that they also take half of each hexagon surrounding them, you'd end up with a dodecahedron.

A dodecahedron is the name for a polyhedron with 12 faces. The regular dodecahedron is the name given to the polyhedron constructed from 12 regular pentagons, 'glued together' at the edges.
