I'm going into the entertainment industry, and I want people to see me as an artist before they see me as 'that lesbian actress' or 'the black lesbian actress'. For this reason, I want to avoid questions about who I'm dating and stuff like that for my first two or three movies ONLY. Don't get me wrong, I am totally proud, but I want people to get to know me for my talent first before knowing me for my sexuality. But I do not want to lie and say I date men, or that I'm not gay. After I finish doing the first couple movies, then I will let it be known that I'm gay ( by making a gay movie)so I can prove to people that you can be successful and gay,and if they liked me before, they should still like me. So, what's the best way to avoid people knowing without actually pretending to be straight? Should I just keep saying "I am not dating anyone right now"? when asked who I'm dating. When they ask what kind of guy I like should I respond by saying, "The type of PERSON I like..."?

I REPEAT, THIS WOULD ONLY BE TEMPORARY.

Reporter: Who are you dating now?
You: It's a beautiful day. I understand it's going to rain later, though.

Reporter: What kind of guy do you like?
You: When I was younger, I remember thinking how much fun it would be to get a chance to talk to reporters. And it is! This is so cool!

Reporter: So, you're not going to answer the question about what kind of guy you like?
You: I admire humanity as a group. I even like you. [laugh]

Reporter: Can you delve into your personal relationships?
You: Sure. I love my parents deeply.

Reporter: Tell me about your first kiss.
You: That's exactly what I heard. It was on Channel 13. They said it might rain.

And so on...

Just say 'No Comment'. They guy that played Jack on Will & Grace was fantastic about keeping his sexualilty a secret. We would never say whether he was gay or straight in real life. Cary Grant was another one. You have to know that if you're famous, people will speculate it and discuss it all the time - I hope you're tough enough to take that. I would never want to be famous and have my life spread out for the public to see, but obviously some people are willing to put up with it.

Whether you become a celebrity or not...you do NOT owe anyone explanations about your personal life! If you are asked questions by an interviewer that pertains to these things...just say you are there to discuss your movie not your private life. That is not being ashamed, it is being private...and every individual has the right to privacy! I wish you the best in your career and life!

Stretch the truth so that nobody believes it. then when you tell the truth, people will think you are "playing the game".

P.S. I don't think you need to "prove to people you can be successful and gay"... my impression from contact with stage and movie types is that there are a LOT of gays in Hollywood. Get networked in with the right people and they will probably act to protect you, and help find you opportunities. Good luck.

Do what alot of celebrites do, Don't talk about your private life. Talk about your movie projects. I have a friend whos a considered a big celebrity, hes been asked if hes gay [hes not], but what he says "Does it matter if I am or not?" and goes to the next question. Just avoids talks about his private life.

Puh-leeeze, Girl; get over yourself! It's great to have self-confidence and a GREAT imagination, but...you are putting the cart before the horse.!!!
You seem more interested in "what to tell people" than in HOW to get into the industry that you feel is your calling. Who says you'll EVER make a movie??? Who says you'll ever be interviewed??? Let's keep it real..............
Anyway, I think that saying either, "I'm not dating anyone right now" is good (unless you ar) And I think that you must like some guys, in some sort of way, so you could say, I like guys who are sincere" etc.

Well Id say use terms like "significant other" for a while and keep them guessing like Keanu Reeves did. But dont put the cart before the horse kiddo ;)

If you don't want to talk about your private life, you won't have to. Even though it's temporary, I think it's a bad idea to lie. Just keep it unknown for he mean time you want to keep it to yourself, that's all you must do. It won't be easy with nosy interviewers, but it can be done. Stay ambigous, don't imply heterosexuality if it's not you.

I don't know. I guess just ignore questions about your sexuality, or don't treat as if it is a big deal. Ex: "Are you gay?" You: "Why does it matter if I'm gay or straight?" I guess you could do that.
