What's the deal with big giant holes in your ears?

I can understand tattoos and peircings to an extent. Some piercings I just wouldnt get *shudders* but I cant understand the giant spacers that give you kids HUGE holes in your earlobes?? Dont you know that when you grow out of the idea that you want to look mysterious and "cool" that you will still have these nasty holes in your earlobes and will likely get turned down for any decent job out there? I mean employers will think it a safety hazzard at least that you may catch your ear on something and have it torn off. Im not "judging" you I just think its a big mistake that you will end up regretting when you grow up. Unless of course you will be making a living as a punk rocker or tattoo artist. There is a large market for both. So what's with them? Do they serve any sort of purpose or have any special meaning?

I really have no idea...i have 5 piercings in each ear but they are normal ones. i have a friend who has both his ears stretched and has plugs in them. i think it is unattractive and i am not sure if i would date someone that had it. i dont understand why they do it, but if they want to then that is their problem not mine. just because someone has piercings or their ears stretched does not mean they are a bad worker. i just recently got my nose pierced and i work in the corporate world. no one has said anything negative about it, but i know someone who got fired from their retail job for their nose piercing and my friends bf cant get his done because starbucks wont let him wear it at work! i think that is ridiculous.

LMAO!!! I know what you mean. One day I saw this guy that I swear had a hold that was about two inches wide... his ear was sooo thin. OMG. It looked like it hurt so bad.

I guess you could still wear jewelry in them and stuff.... and if they don't want it when they get older they can just sew it up or something, lol
