in some cases. makeup does not enhance beauty..it makes some women look even uglier, why? because you can see all the layers of makeup. its sick. but i guess some men find that attractive. whatever floats they boat.

I think the idea originally was to enhance the image, but it's the need to "enhance" that's interesting, as I believe make-up didn't show up until around the 16th Century, at least as any sort of a regular habit among women. But even then it was mostly just a bit of rouge. (Shakespeare mentions ladies with painted faces.) It wasn't until the 19th Century that it really took hold for the masses, and then again in the 20th Century after color films brought a new kind of cosmetic glamor to women's minds.

It depends upon the person. If a woman is already beatiful (by her societies current standards) then she is just enhancing what she already has.

If a woman has blemishes, she needs to cover those before trying to enhance other features.

I don't think a generalization can be made.

Some times women and men use make-up to enhance there looks. Other times can be to cover up scarring and bad skin.

In the movies they need to use at least a little makeup or the person on cameral will cause glare from the lights being shone on them.

In life... it's just plain vanity. People don't like themselves and they feel the need to cover up what they think is "imperfect"

personally... I only wore makeup when I was going through the whole GOTH thing... of course... that was more like face paint.

interesting side note... face paint used to be considered a mark of honour amongst most tribes in ancient times.

Some people are getting into the "artsy" end of it I guess. All the girls who wear MAC... Nothing wrong with that but makeup (I think) was originally worn to enhance your facial features.

I wear makeup to even out my skin tone , enhance my eyes and give my cheeks color and lift. I suppose everybody has their different reasons but we all have things we don't like and can change with makeup.

Ok, I am an expert to cover up the age lines, and the skin pigmentation that they think is not normal, that is not part of them that they want to show. Some think make up makes you look prettier, But the truth be told your regular self looks better!
