Any boob can google John Wayne and answer the question. I've seen all of John Wayne's movies (except those cheesy westerns he made in early 's when he was still playing football at USC. I'm not going to google this but I don't recall George Takei in one of his films - or Bobby Vinton - or Leslie Ann Down - but they may have appeared in one of the 50's or early 60's films before they got fame. Ron Howard was in Wayne's last film, The Shootist, also starring the marvelous Lauren Bacall. He was a teenager at that time. Really good film, mirroring what was happening to Mr. W. in real life: Dying of cancer, one last chance to get it right. Glen Campbell was in the film Mr. W. won his best acting oscar for. The thing about John Wayne is that he got better in each successive film proving that experience was the key for him. Early on all he could do in films was just look great. No one watching those films could have predicted he would actually become a fine character actor.
For laughs watch his vanity (read: far right wing) project, The Green Berets, a howler indeed. David Janssen actually brings his brooding Actors Studio personna to his role as if this was a great film and he had great lines. And John Wayne, so out of touch on the Vietnam War, reads his lines as if he were doing shakespeare before the Queen. So bad it is good.
