Some things are lost and some things change...some things change slowly - and things change differentially depending a many factors. Marriage, birth and death all have associated rituals that are in many cases very old...in spite of technology...but in the end all things must change...as a whole...parts of culture will hold out...I think where money is involved and therefore enhanced survival then traditional practices change or are "lost"...certainly physical survival trumps everything...including traditional culture.

tradition is the basis for any culture. but tech is the tools used. tradition incorporates tech into the culture, and tech then becomes a part of tradition. history has demonstrated this for millenia, only you have to see it to understand. when you are in the now, you can't see, but when you become the then, it is right there to see.

It's all in the attitude. If the techies reject the past as ignorant and backwards, it will be lost. However, if like in Japan, where their ancestors are revered, technology will be viewed as an extension of what their forefathers did. That is, insofar as the Japanese stay away from
Western culture. We polute every society we touch.
