I'm new here, and I'm hoping this doesn't go against any rules...
My question though, is what do people have against Gerard Butler in POTO?
I've heard people say that his deformity was too small and his voice wasn't good enough. But really, has ANY deformity ever been as horrible as it was described in the book? Has ANY voice really measured up to that of an 'Angel of Music'?
It's just a question that's been bugging me for a while...

Because Michael Crawford, the Original Phantom, sang sooooo hauntingly and beautifully "The Music of the Night", that it's pretty hard to beat. I think Phantom fans were hoping he would be chosen for the lead.

Gerard Butler's performance reminded me of the Canadian production with Colm Wilkenson.

Another great Phantom was Jeff Hysop from the kids' show Today's Special, but he was far more like Crawford than Butler.

The deformity was bigger in the play because it had to be seen from the last row, but it was also far more effective because you could understand his seclusion.

Ultimately, I believed Phantom fans had hoped Crawford's extraordinary performance could have been preserved for all time, and it is unfortunate that it has not.

Take a listen to the Original Soundtrack from London, I believe, and you'll hear the difference. Like buttah! I still get goosebumps from it!

If you really love the movie, GO SEE THE PLAY!! It will blow your mind and it is totally worth it!

I don't have anything against him. I thought he had a beautiful voice.
"THOSE PEOPLE" they're always stirring the pot, causing trouble. I say we tell "THEM" to give it a try before "THEY" go baggin' on Mr. Butler
