Thanks

Twins run along the mother's side of the family. His sperm cannot cause twins. Identical twins are spontaneous, and have no genetic link thus far. Fraternal twins are more likely to run in families on the mother's side because they may be passing along a gene for hyperovulation (releasing more than one egg). There are many other factors that could influence your chances of having twins. For instance, a lot of wild yam in your diet has been know to increase the chances of twins. African Americans have the highest incidence of twins, and Asians have the lowest.

Btw, even without genetic factors, there's always a slight chance of having twins spontaneously. Your chances probably aren't the best, but they aren't nonexistant either. Being Asian, on the other hand, I have almost no chances of twins.

Well your chances of having twins depends on your age..For Example..If you are from 20-29 you have the average 3% if you are form 30-39 you have a %4 chance and if you are between the ages of 40-49 its %5 and ect...

But normally the average is 3%or 1 in every 33 births.

Also it does run in the genes so if there anyone other kinds of twins on either side of the family your chances increases by a average of %1.7

Soo good luck in having twins :)

Oh and the chance of having 'natural' fraternal twins is only about 1.7% or 1 in 60

Twins usually skip a generation...so if his grandfather IS a twin, that means his great-grandfather HAD twins....so, skipping a generation would go;

Great-grandfather
Grandfather (skip)
Your fiance's father
Your fiance (skip)
Your children

So your chances are not as high since your fiance is "skipped", but you still probably have an increased chance compared to other people because twins run in your fiances family! Good Luck!

not high. 2 of 3 sets of twins are fraternal, and only 1 of 3 is identical. about 1 in 33 pregnancies are twins. your chances of fraternal twins can vary from your family history, but identical twins are totally random and don't run in a family. so if your relatives are identical twins, that doesn't affect your odds. but in general 1 in 33 are twins.

Its funny they aren't really too sure still about the odds of having twins. There are theories though that if your a certain age (above 35), certain ethnicity (African-American), or have twins in your family, or fertilization drugs, that it raises the probability of having twins. However, my sister in law, who is a twin, and has other twins in her family, and is over the age of 35 and married my brother in law who's sisters are twins and they also have other family members who are twins, is on her second pregnancy and is not having twins. So who knows! But good luck :)

I have 5 year old twin girls,Hannah and Brianna...My life... Anyway,my husband and I argued quite often about why I was pregnant with twins.(silly argument) He says because of his MANLINESS,and I would say that a woman would have to produce 2 eggs or 1 that seperates in order to have twins. When the doctors visit came,we asked,I,the mother, have no twins in her family. The dad does quite a few generations back.Doc says,A woman has to produce 2 eggs or 1 egg that seperates,in order to produce twins. The man determines the sex and can have 20 sets of twins in his bloodline and it not make a bit of difference. What I am saying is dont get your hopes up or have any worries about it because he has twins in his family. Now if u have twins in your family, you might be in for a surprise.

The chance of you having twins has nothing to do with your fiance or his family history. When a man ejaculates, he releases about 150 million sperm. Those sperm meet either:
1. two separate eggs (resulting in fraternal twins)
2. one egg that separates after fertilization (resulting in identical twins).

The man determines the sex of the baby/babies, the woman how many.

it depend if they are identical or fraternal. My grandma (shes from naples and has odd remedies) she told me to eat a ton of yams daily while TTC and a few weeks after, it helps with twin making, her mother had 3 sets of twins (18 kids in all).

I heard that from a few people also. NO YAMS FOR ME

The others are saying it comes from the mothers' side, which makes sense.

My father's mom was a fraternal twin and none of her grandchildren, great grandchildren or great-great grandchildren have had any twins.
